How to join

Applying for Solomons Island Yacht Club membership is simple:

• Be sponsored by two Regular, Senior or Life members of the club.  

• Complete our application form. You can download, complete and send the membership application OR visit the club when the Captain's Lounge is open for a hard copy of the application form.

• Submit your completed application form with your sponsors' signatures by e-mail, U.S. mail or in person. 

• Include the non-refundable application fee, equal to the current annual dues of $1,100. The application fee will be credited toward the initiation fee of $2,200 upon acceptance as a Regular Member.
• You may pay online, drop off a check or cash at the clubhouse during club hours, or send the application fee by mail with your application form. Checks should be made payable to: Solomons Island Yacht Club.

To pay online: 

• Use a credit card or automated clearing house (ACH) bank withdrawal. Credit card payments will have a Board-approved 3% service fee added automatically, but ACH payments are free.
• Start an online payment by visiting: our online payment site.

For credit cards:

• Choose "card".
• Enter the amount of the application fee (on a computer monitor, the box for "amount" may be on the left side of the screen). Do NOT add the 3% service fee if paying by credit card; this fee will be added automatically and will appear in the Card “window.”
• Fill in the required information (denoted with an asterisk).
• Click on the “Pay” button to complete the payment process.

For ACH bank payments: 

• Choose "bank".
• Enter the amount of your application fee (on a computer monitor, the box for "amount" may be on the left side of the screen). 
• Fill in the required information (denoted with an asterisk). Leave the DL Number and DL State blank. The address fields are optional.
• Click on the “Pay” button to complete the payment process.

To apply and pay by mail:

Candidates for membership must have attained the age of 21 years by the date of the First Reading/Introduction.

While you're waiting

Although the wait list for SIYC membership is approximately four years long, while you’re on the wait list, your sponsors are encouraged to invite you to participate in select club activities as a guest. Participating in events helps the club members get to know you and helps you get to know the club.

In a nutshell, you can:

• Accompany one of your sponsors or another club member to happy hour at the club.



• Attend dinners and club events with one of your sponsors or with other club members (with the exception of the annual membership meeting and the Board of Governors meetings).
• Watch the event calendar and talk with your sponsors or other SIYC members you know about visiting the club with them for an event that interests you!
• Your sponsor or another member will make the dinner or event reservation.

• Participate in certain dinners and club events, such as opening weekend, that are described as open to people on the wait list without their sponsors.
• Typically, these invitations come from the Rear Commodore.
• Watch the calendar, the newsletter, and Rear Commodore blast emails!

• Participate with club members in some of our cruises, at the discretion of the Fleet Captain, to destinations that are open to the public or to other yacht club destinations where you already enjoy reciprocal privileges.

• Volunteer at events or support certain committees with the Rear Commodore’s permission. The club relies almost exclusively on volunteer members to operate and maintain the club and its facilities.

In addition, when you reach the Top 20 on our wait list:



• You may be able to rent SIYC pier slips on a space-available basis.

When you reach the Top 10 on our wait list:

• The “Top 10” people on our waiting list are granted a special status. In the Top 10, you will have the same privileges as regular members, including transient and annual pier privileges on the SIYC pier and parking at the club.

• You will receive one or two parking hangtag(s) for your vehicle(s) which allows you to park in the SIYC parking lot for club events.

• People in the Top 10 are encouraged to participate as fully as possible at SIYC to prepare for regular membership.

• You may be invited to the Commodore’s Ball.

Until you are a regular member, you don’t have two days free dockage and may not vote at the annual meeting, hold office, invite guests, support certain committees, or reserve the clubhouse for private parties.
